Men's Colour · Winnipeg · St Vital

Men's hair colourin Winnipeg.

Thirty minutes, from $50. Grey blended down so nobody can tell — or covered completely, if that is what you want.

Almost everyone who books this books it for grey. Not all of it, usually. The temples went first, then the sides, and now it reads older in photographs than it does in the mirror. That is the real reason men sit in this chair, and there is no point pretending otherwise.

The appointment is 30 minutes, and that matters more than it sounds. A man who would never give up an afternoon to a salon will give up half an hour — and half an hour is genuinely all this takes. Colour on, short process, washed off, dried. It fits either side of work.

It is not only grey. Going darker, going lighter, or something deliberately bright is the same 30-minute booking. And it can sit on the same visit as your haircut or a beard colour.

What actually happens in the chair.

  1. 01

We look at how much grey there is, and where

Ten per cent at the temples is a different job from fifty per cent through the top. Your natural depth and where the grey sits decide what gets mixed.

  2. 02

Blend or cover gets decided out loud

This is the real question and it gets asked before anything starts. Softened and knocked back, or gone completely. There is no default, and you choose.

  3. 03

    You hear the price

$50 is the starting point. The menu tags this one priced in salon, which means the final number is set by your artist once they have seen your hair — before any colour is mixed, not at the desk afterwards.

  4. 04

    On, process, off

Colour is applied, it processes for a short window, then it is washed out and dried. Thirty minutes start to finish, and you leave seeing the result.

Blending grey, or covering it.

Two different results, and worth understanding before you sit down — because most men who ask for grey coverage actually want grey blending.

Grey blending leaves some grey visible on purpose. The colour is kept close to your natural depth and it is deposit-only, so the contrast softens instead of vanishing. The greys go from bright white to something quiet. Nobody can tell it was done, and it grows out without a line — which is the part that matters most if you do not want a standing salon appointment.

Full grey coverage takes the grey out and matches everything to one depth. It is a bigger visual change and it needs redoing on a schedule, because a band of white regrowth against solid colour is obvious in a way blended grey never is.

If you have never coloured your hair before, blending is almost always the right first move. You can always go further next time. Going back the other way is harder.

What it costs, and adding it to a cut.

Men's Hair Colour is from $50 for 30 minutes, booked with Zahara or Aman — the colour artists, not the barber chair.

The menu tags it priced in salon, and that is worth stating plainly rather than burying. $50 is where it starts. Your final number is set by your artist once they have looked at your hair, because how much grey there is, how much hair there is and how far you are moving from your natural depth all change the work. You get told before anything is mixed.

It can go on the same visit as a men's haircut — say so when you book and the slots are held back to back. Beard colouring is a separate $20 service, and most men who colour the hair on their head end up asking about the beard, because a matched beard is what stops the whole thing looking half-finished. The rest of the colour menu, including root touch-ups and full head colour, is on the hair colour page.

Questions we get asked.

How much is men's hair colour in Winnipeg?

Men's Hair Colour is from $50 for a 30-minute appointment. The menu tags it priced in salon, which means $50 is the starting point and your artist sets the final number once they have seen how much grey there is and how much hair there is. You are told the price before any colour is mixed.

How long does men's colour take?

Thirty minutes. The colour goes on, processes for a short window, then it is washed out and dried. It is one of the fastest services on the menu, which is the reason a lot of men book it at all.

Can you just blend the grey rather than cover it fully?

Yes, and it is what most men actually want. Blending uses a deposit-only colour kept close to your natural depth, so the greys are softened rather than erased and some are left visible on purpose. It grows out without a hard line, so you are not locked into a schedule. Ask for a blend, not a cover, when you book.

Will it look obvious?

Not if it is blended. The point of grey blending is that the contrast drops and nothing reads as dyed — no flat block of colour, no line at the hairline. Full coverage is a bigger change and it does need keeping up, because white regrowth against solid colour shows. Your artist will tell you which one your hair is going to do.

Can I add it to a haircut?

Yes. Say so when you book and the slots are held back to back — the colour with Zahara or Aman, the cut with Karan, Noor or RV. It is one visit instead of two, which is the practical advantage of a colour chair and a barber chair being in the same building.

How long does men's colour last?

Blended grey fades down gradually and softly, so most men come back somewhere around every four to six weeks — sooner if the grey is heavy at the temples. Full coverage needs redoing on a tighter schedule, because the regrowth line is visible rather than blended. Your artist will tell you what to expect for your hair before you leave.

Do you take walk-ins?

We do take walk-ins, but please call 431-844-5500 first to check availability before coming in. A 30-minute colour can often be fitted in on the day, but it has to be with Zahara or Aman, and they may already be in a longer colour appointment.

Who does this service

Men's colour is done by Zahara, whose focus is hair, colour and brows, and Aman. You choose your artist when you book.
