Hair toner & glossin Winnipeg.

The one-hour appointment that fixes tone. Brass out, shine back, and the colour underneath left exactly where it is. From $45.

A toner does not change your colour. It changes your tone. Those are two different things, and mixing them up is the most common reason someone leaves a salon disappointed. Depth is how light or dark the hair is. Tone is whether it reads warm or cool — gold, orange, beige, ash, copper. A toner only touches the second one.

That is why it is a one-hour appointment from $45 and not an afternoon. Nothing is being lifted and nothing is being covered. A deposit-only colour goes onto hair that has already been lightened, it sits for a few minutes, then it is washed out and blown dry. You leave with the same lightness you walked in with, and a tone that looks like it was chosen.

On the menu it is Wet Toner, Wash & Blowdry. People search for it as a toner, a gloss, or a purple toner for brassy hair — it is the same appointment. Booked with Zahara, Navpreet or Aman.

What actually happens in the chair.

  1. 01

We read what the hair is doing now

How light it has actually been lifted, and where the unwanted warmth is sitting. Brass is usually worst through the mid-lengths and ends, and it is almost never even. That is what decides the formula.

  2. 02

    You hear the price first

$45 is the starting point for the hour. Length and density move it. You are told the number before any product goes near your hair.

  3. 03

    The toner goes on wet

Applied to washed, damp hair — that is the "wet" in the name — and watched rather than left. Toning is measured in minutes, and a toner left too long travels further than you asked it to.

  4. 04

    Rinse, treat, blowdry

It is rinsed, conditioned and blown dry, so you see the finished tone dry instead of guessing at it wet. Wet hair always reads darker and cooler than it will end up.

What a toner can and cannot do.

Worth being blunt about, because the gap between these two lists is where disappointment lives.

It can neutralise brass and orange on hair that has been lifted, take a yellow blonde to a cleaner beige or ash, put warmth back into a blonde that has gone flat and grey, pull a drifted tone back to where it started, and add shine to colour that has gone dull.

It cannot make your hair lighter — there is no lightener in it. It cannot cover regrowth or grey. It cannot rescue hair that was never lifted far enough in the first place: if the pigment underneath is still solidly orange, a toner will mute it, not remove it. And it is not permanent, because deposit-only colour washes down.

So if what you actually want is lighter hair, you want highlights or balayage. If you want regrowth covered, you want a root touch-up or a full head colour. If you are not sure which of those describes you, the colour consultation is free and takes fifteen minutes.

The three people who book this.

The blonde who has gone brassy. Six weeks after highlights the cool tone has washed out and yellow or orange is showing through. Nothing is wrong with the lift — it is the tone that drifted. An hour puts it back, from $45.

The one mid-way between balayage appointments. Balayage is a three-hour booking you would rather not repeat early. A toner at the halfway mark resets the tone and buys you the time to the next full appointment.

The one whose colour just looks dull. No brass, nothing wrong with the shade — it has simply lost its shine. A gloss-style toner puts the reflection back without changing anything else about the hair.

Questions we get asked.

How much is a hair toner in Winnipeg?

Wet Toner, Wash and Blowdry is from $45, and that is the whole appointment — toner, wash and a blowdry finish. Length and density set the final number, and you are told it before anything is applied.

How long does a toner appointment take?

One hour. That covers the toner processing, the wash and the blowdry. It is one of the shortest colour bookings on the menu, which is why it fits into a day in a way a full colour does not.

What does a toner actually do?

It sits on the outside of the hair and shifts the tone — how warm or cool the colour reads — without changing how light or dark the hair is. Think of it as a filter laid over the colour that is already there. It can kill brass, cool a yellow blonde down, warm a flat one up, or put shine back into dull colour. What it cannot do is lighten hair or cover regrowth.

Will a toner fix brassy or orange hair?

Usually, if the hair is light enough underneath. Brass is warmth left behind by lightening, and a toner neutralises it — violet and blue based toners cancel yellow and orange, which is why people ask for a purple toner by name. If the hair was never lifted far enough, though, toning will only mute the orange rather than remove it. That is the honest answer, and it is why the free consultation exists.

How long does a toner last?

Weeks, not months. A toner is deposit-only, so it washes down a little every time you shampoo — commonly four to six weeks, sooner if you wash often or wash hot. Cooler water and a colour-safe shampoo stretch it out.

What is the difference between a toner and a hair colour?

A colour changes the depth of your hair — it takes you lighter or darker, and it covers regrowth. A toner does neither. It only adjusts the tone of what is already there, on hair that has already been lifted. That is why a toner is from $45 for an hour while a full head colour is from $100 for an hour and a half. Different job, different booking.

Can I get a toner between balayage appointments?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons people book it. Balayage is a three-hour appointment you would rather not repeat early. A toner at the halfway point resets the tone that has drifted warm and holds you to the next full appointment.

Do you take walk-ins?

We do take walk-ins, but please call 431-844-5500 first to check availability before coming in. A toner is a one-hour booking with a colour artist, so there is sometimes room on the day — but the artist you want may already be in a three-hour appointment.

Who does this service
